Pyrenees isn’t one of the places you normally hear about over here in India. I did a little research and found out that the people over there do a lot of the things that I like, including delicious desserts, spending time at the beach, and not to mention an amazing music scene and the landscapes were more or less like that of Himalayan range with lakes everywhere.
The members of my host family and the host club were some of the most generous people I’ve ever met. They all lived in and near a city called Formigueres which is a commune in the Pyrenees-Orientales department in southern France and my home for the next 14 days. I remember getting up bright and early every morning in the summer (winter for me though) to a fabulous English breakfast following which we would be leaving for hiking.
Friends come easy in Pyrenees; the French people are a very open-minded, fun loving people. They are very forward, and say exactly what they feel. As long as you’re outgoing and willing to try new things while laughing at yourself, people there will flock to you.
My host family took me on some great trips, few which were not even in the schedule, like visits to a golf course in Spain where great players like Messi and Neymar Jr have their weekend houses, to a beautiful beach and to a local wildlife reserve. I enjoyed learning about the country’s rich history, and seeing the natural landscapes that you’ll never see anywhere else .If you get a chance, ask about going to canoeing – it’s a one in a lifetime experience that even words can’t describe.
